Day 9, March Thursday, 2023 (VIOLET) (Readings for Mass: Jer 17:5-10/Lk 16:19-31) TOPIC: O LORD, HELP ME TO PUT MY TRUST SOLELY IN YOU READ: Jeremiah 17:5-10 Key Scripture: My blessing is on those people who trust in me, who put their confidence in me (Jeremiah 17:7). REFLECTION The scripture says in Heb 11:6 that without faith, it is impossible for anyone to please God. Check it out and see for yourself! Most of the sins we commit today are as a result of lack of trust in divine providence. That is the same thing that led Ahaz to doom as he went into alliance with the Assyrians against the Syro-Ephraimite opposition (cf. Isa 7 - 9). The prophecy against Assyria in Isaiah 10 would be a pointer that Ahaz went on with such an alliance and Israel got punished by the Assyrians for it. God would allow such a punishment to go on in the first place because such action is regarded as a rejection of God (see 1 Sam 8:8). That is equally our body language when we begin to place our trust in material things - when we feel that if we do not give bribe, we would not move forward in life, when we think that unless we sleep around with men, we would not get married, etc. The psalmist reminds us that our help comes solely from the Lord, who made heaven and earth (Ps 124:8). The troubles that grow daily around us can lure us away from God but that is if our faith in him is shaky. So we join the apostles in praying to him, "Lord, increase our faith" (Luke 17:5). PRAYER 1. Father, thank you for the opportunity to trust in you. 2. Lord, I know you are in control of my life; you are in charge of the whole world. My life is safe when it is hidden in you. 3. Father, please teach me to follow you; help me to depend on you alone. 4. Father, work on my life to produce the virtue of trust. 5. I rebuke every spirit of doubt and disbelief, in Jesus name. 6. You spirit of double-mindedness; be uprooted from my life in Jesus name. 7. Lord, please steer my heart towards you and make me to depend on you alone. Amen. 8. Father, please increase my faith level. 9. Give me the faith, O Lord, to believe that everything is possible for me. 10. Lord, build in me the faith that moves mountains and calms storms. Amen. 11. Father, I believe that even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, in Jesus name. 12. I believe your word that says, that even though a thousand fall at my side and ten thousand at my right hand, disaster will not come near me. I will use my eyes to see the punishment of the wicked being given to them. 13. Thank you Jesus for the trials you allow to come my way. I believe that all things are working together for my good. Amen. 14. With Psalm 71:1, I declare that in you I put my trust and that I confidently take refuge in you. 15. Father, using Psalm 56:3 I promise that when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. 16. Lord, it is in you that I put my trust, please do not let the enemies exult over me. 17. (Add other personal intentions). 18.
