Many of us have learned to navigate our stress, fear, anxiety, and other emotions by repressing (or ignoring) them. But the Bible never advises that we deny our emotions. The Bible’s invitation to “trust in the Lord” includes the idea of verbalizing our emotions and needs to God and safe people who help us connect to God. So when we’re stressed, hurting, or anxious it’s important for us to be emotionally honest with God and safe people. We need to feel our emotions and internalize the love of someone who is willing to attune to our feelings, validate our emotions, and accepts us as we are. (It’s important that we receive this both from Jesus and from safe friends in the Body of Christ.) Receiving empathy in this way is energizing. It gives us the strength we need to carry our burdens and move forward in freedom. It connects us to God’s perfect love that removes all fear (1 John 4:8). And it’s what enables us to overflow this love to others! I have learned that to thrive with Jesus I need to regularly give and receive empathy. It’s a crucial part of my marriage, friendships, ministry, and relationship with God. Expressing our emotions in this way facilitates bonding in our relationships and helps us receive the nurture, strength, and encouragement that we need to navigate our daily life and its challenges . . . #soulshepherding #emotionalhealth #emotionsmatter #christianlife #emotionallyhealthy #emotionalhealthmatters #christianliving #jesuslovers #jesuslife #christianblog #christianencouragement #lifeinchrist #empathymatters #empathyquotes #empathyforlife #emotionalquotes #bibletruth #devotiontime #devotions #christianquotes #faithquotes #dailydevotions #christianposts #prayertime #prayerispowerful #godismystrength #prayerlife #prayerful #prayerswork #followjesus
