Good morning dear friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ, have an awesome Wednesday! Ephesians 1:7 King James Version 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Romans 3:24 King James Version 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Colossians 1:14 King James Version 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Hebrews 9:12-15 King James Version 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. 2 Corinthians 8:9 King James Version 9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 1 John 2:2 King James Version 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Titus 2:14 King James Version 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

DEFENDING MARY'S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION ( Apologetics - Mariology) December 8 feast day (A Day of Obligation and a public Holiday in the Philippines) The Immaculate Conception was just an invention of the Catholic church .."for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23- So Mary is a sinner too just like everyone else- Anti Catholics attacked on Mary's Purity The Immaculate Conception is the Catholic dogma that the Mother of God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, was conceived in her mother's womb without the stain of original sin. Quite simply this doctrine states that the Virgin Mary was preserved free of Original Sin from the moment of her conception, and so was made sinless. Even before the terms "original sin" and "immaculate conception" had been defined, early passages imply the doctrines. Many works mention that Mary gave birth to Jesus without pain. But pain in childbearing is part of the penalty of original sin (Gen. 3:16). Thus, Mary could not have been under that penalty. By God’s grace, she was immaculate in anticipation of her Son’s redemptive death on the cross. The Church therefore describes Mary as "the most excellent fruit of redemption" Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 508). Biblical Basis: It has to do with the Holiness of God. God cannot tolerate Sin. Mary as the God-bearer in Jesus had to be sinless in order to be in such close proximity to God Himself. The whole Bible teaches that God's presence demands and imparts holiness. (Ex 3:5; Deut 23:14; 1 Cor 3:17; 1 Jn 3:5-6; Rev 21:27). The Jewish high priest entered the Holy of Holies only once a year, under threat of death if God's instructions were violated (Lev 16:2-4,13). The Ark itself was so holy that only a few were allowed to touch it (Num 4:15; 2 Sam 6:2-7). Thus, Mary, due to her physical and spiritual relationship with God, necessarily had to be granted the grace of sinlessness. We all know way back in Exodus 3, when Moses first saw God as the burning bush, that there is such a thing as holy ground. God told Moses to take off his sandals, because he was standing on holy ground, where God Himself was present on earth. We know today that Israel and Jerusalem are known as "The Holy Land", because of the fact that Jesus walked there. We know that the Ark of the Covenant was considered very holy by the Jews, because it contained the Word of God. The Holy of Holies, where the Ark of the Covenant was originally placed in Solomon's Temple, was so holy that only the Jewish high priest could enter it once a year. So what does all of that mean? Well, if the desert where God walked was "holy ground", how much more holy would Mary have to be to have God live inside her for 9 months while she was pregnant? If the Ark of the Covenant was pure and holy because it contained The Word of God in stone tablets, how much more pure and holy would Mary have to be to contain The Word made flesh (Jesus Christ) in her body? Very pure and holy indeed. Gabriel referred to Mary as "full of grace" (Luke 1:28) BEFORE the incarnation took place. One cannot be full of grace and have ANY sin (Romans 6:14). And that fact could only mean that Mary did not have the stain of any sin, even original sin, on her soul. Mary was not "Full of Grace" because she had Jesus inside of her; rather, she was chosen to be the mother of Jesus because she was full of grace already. Gabriel told her "The Lord is with you" before she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit For the record, the Blessed Virgin Mary was not the first woman to be created immaculately. That honor would go to Eve, who was brought forth from the body of Adam sinless. In other words, God redeemed the world through an immaculately conceived virgin (Mary) without sin in order to overcome the condemnation of the world through an immaculately created virgin (Eve) who did sin. Paul calls Jesus the new Adam in 1 Corinthians 15:45, which would make Mary the new Eve. Just as Adam and Eve were created without sin and failed their test, just so, Jesus and Mary were created without sin and passed their test Anti Catholics are quite willing to admit that we are cleansed of our sins at baptism. Yet Mary could not have been baptised at the time of the Annunciation, or even Jesus's birth. For this reason her sinlessness had to come in a special and unique manner. To be pure and free from all sin as God required, she had not only to be free of sin at one point in time, (as one is immediately after baptism,) but to remain sinless throughout her life. JUST A MINUTE. DIDN'T MARY HERSELF ADMIT THAT SHE NEEDED A SAVIOUR? HOW COULD SHE BE SINLESS? Mary did indeed agree she needed a Saviour: Luke 1.46: And Mary said "My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour," But this presents no difficulty. We have seen that Mary needed to be perfectly sinless in order to bear Jesus. Did she attain that sinlessness through her own human efforts? No. She was redeemed by her son - as was all the rest of humanity. She needed God's Grace. And in order to be, and remain, sinless she needed that grace before her own birth. We can see that in Luke 1.46 Mary speaks of God as her Saviour, but she speaks in the present tense. She does not say "God, who will be my Saviour." She has already been redeemed. If we look at one of the Old Testament passages that Mary bases her words upon, we see this more clearly. Isaiah 51.10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. As virtually every educated 1st Century Jew would have recognised, in echoing this passage, Mary clearly considered that God had already clothed her with the garments of salvation, and covered her with the robe of righteousness. Her sin had already been wiped away. This is supported by the angel's greeting to Mary: Luke 1.28: The angel went to her and said, "Hail, you who are full of grace (Literally: you who have been and remain filled with Grace). The Lord is with you." Grace in the New Testament is seen as the antidote to sin. (Rom 3:24, 5:15-17, 6:14 11:6) So being filled with Grace strongly implies sinlessness. And since Mary required the grace of redemption before her own birth, it is quite fitting that this happened at her conception. Is this a problem for God? No. Jesus is the perfect Redeemer. Therefore he must have redeemed one person perfectly. That person is Mary, having been redeemed by Jesus from Original Sin from the moment of her own conception. Anti Catholic bibles erroneously translated the angel's greeting as "highly-favoured" . The Greek word used by the angel is Kecharitomene. The root of this word is Charis, meaning Grace. The prefix Ke means that the grace was already perfectly present before the angel appeared. The suffix mene means that Mary was the recipient of this grace. Now Charis can also be translated simply as favour. So Highly-favoured could be a conceivable translation - but this would only be acceptable if the word "favour" were used as a translation for "Charis" everywhere else in the New Testament. But THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN. Even those bibles which translate "Charis" as Favour" when referring to Mary, translate it as "Grace" everywhere else. This is highly misleading because in the New Testament the word "Grace" has a particular meaning distinct from "Favour". In the New Testament "Grace" is a gift of God that saves from sin and its effects. So translating the word any differently is wrong. The correct translation is rightfully "Full of Grace" To back this up, let's look again at Adam and Eve as "types" of Jesus and Mary. Paul wrote of "..Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come." (Rom 5.14.) The Church fathers spoke of: "Death through Eve, Life through Mary." Here are some more excellent scripture quotes for us to counter the Anti Catholics attacks on the holiness and purity of our Mother Mary (John 19:27, " "Here is your mother."Revelation 12:17 Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring—those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus.): Matthew 12:33: "Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit Luke 1:42: and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! Luke 6:43:"For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit; 1 Corinthians 6:17: But he who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him Romans 6:14: For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. Luke 1:28: And he came to her and said, "Hail, Full of Grace, the Lord is with you!" Luke 1:38: And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her. Luke 22:42: "Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." Early Church Fathers on the Immaculate Conception In A.D.155, Justin Martyr wrote, ".. Eve, a virgin and undefiled, conceived the word of the serpent, and bore disobedience and death. But the Virgin Mary received faith and joy when the angel Gabriel announced to her the glad tidings that the Spirit of the Lord would come upon her" (Dialogue with Trypho) St Irenaeus wrote: "the knot of Eve's disobedience was loosed by the obedience of Mary. What the virgin Eve had bound in unbelief, the Virgin Mary loosed through faith." (Against Heresies 180-199 A. D.) The Odes of Solomon "So the Virgin became a mother with great mercies. And she labored and bore the Son, but without pain, because it did not occur without purpose. And she did not seek a midwife, because he caused her to give life. She bore as a strong man, with will . . . " (Odes of Solomon 19 [A.D. 80] Ephraim the Syrian "You alone and your Mother are more beautiful than any others, for there is no blemish in you nor any stains upon your Mother. Who of my children can compare in beauty to these?" (Nisibene Hymns 27:8 [A.D. 361]). Ambrose of Milan "Mary’s life should be for you a pictorial image of virginity. Her life is like a mirror reflecting the face of chastity and the form of virtue. Therein you may find a model for your own life . . . showing what to improve, what to imitate, what to hold fast to" (The Virgins 2:2:6 [A.D. 377]). "Come, then, and search out your sheep, not through your servants or hired men, but do it yourself. Lift me up bodily and in the flesh, which is fallen in Adam. Lift me up not from Sarah but from Mary, a virgin not only undefiled, but a virgin whom grace had made inviolate, free of every stain of sin" (Commentary on Psalm 118:22–30 [A.D. 387]). Augustine "Our Lord . . . was not averse to males, for he took the form of a male, nor to females, for of a female he was born. Besides, there is a great mystery here: that just as death comes to us through a woman, life is born to us through a woman; that the devil, defeated, would be tormented by each nature, feminine and masculine, as he had taken delight in the defection of both" (Christian Combat 22:24 [A.D. 396]). "Having excepted the holy Virgin Mary, concerning whom, on account of the honor of the Lord, I wish to have absolutely no question when treating of sins—for how do we know what abundance of grace for the total overcoming of sin was conferred upon her, who merited to conceive and bear him in whom there was no sin?—so, I say, with the exception of the Virgin, if we could have gathered together all those holy men and women, when they were living here, and had asked them whether they were without sin, what do we suppose would have been their answer?" (Nature and Grace 36:42 [A.D. 415]). Timothy of Jerusalem "Therefore the Virgin is immortal to this day, seeing that he who had dwelt in her transported her to the regions of her assumption" (Homily on Simeon and Anna [A.D. 400]). John the Theologian "[T]he Lord said to his Mother, ‘Let your heart rejoice and be glad, for every favor and every gift has been given to you from my Father in heaven and from me and from the Holy Spirit. Every soul that calls upon your name shall not be ashamed, but shall find mercy and comfort and support and confidence, both in the world that now is and in that which is to come, in the presence of my Father in the heavens’" (The Falling Asleep of Mary [A.D. 400]). "And from that time forth all knew that the spotless and precious body had been transferred to paradise" (ibid.). http://thesplendorofthechurch.com/.../defending-marys.../ source:ourlady web/catholic bible 101/catholic. com fathers of the early church/ catechism of the catholic church/holy bible niv / #BVM #Apologetics #Mariology #DefendingtheImmaculateConception #December8 #wrrtotustuusfiat

BIBLE DEVOTION – Thursday 3/9/2023 Written by Brenda Pettyjohn “GOD’S WORK OF ART” Romans 3:24 (KJV) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Ephesians 2:10 (KJV) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Acts 15:11 (KJV) But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved I had the greatest of privileges when I was growing up. I had a true Christian Mom and Dad that not only told me about Jesus Christ and becoming a Christian, but they were living disciples of what a real Christian looks like. Unfortunately, some of those of my age group that I associate with were not so blessed. They never had the same examples lived out in front of them so the foundation in their walk with Christ is not as secure as it could have been. I remember, as a little girl, only eight years old – feeling the conviction of the Holy Spirit – tugging at my heart. I understand that at that tender age I had not committed a lot of sins, but I did feel the Holy Spirit convicting or convincing me that my greatest need was to ask Jesus Christ into my heart to be the Savior of my soul. Almost every service at church, if there was an altar call given, I was in the altar – crying my eyes out. I was not sure at that time why I wanted to cry so much. I just knew that when I knelt at that altar my heart opened up and the words that I so desperately wanted to speak spilled out as hot, burning tears tracking down my cheeks. And I loved it! I longed for it! I NEEDED that feeling and that experience. Each time I knelt down I became more and more acquainted with what the presence of God felt like. I enjoyed the closeness of Jesus presence and looked forward to each time I could meet with Him at that altar. It did not take me long to grow in the knowledge of God and realize that the grace of Jesus Christ was extended to me and because I accepted Him as my Savior, I could have that same closeness and fellowship with my Savior at home, or going down the road or wherever I found myself by just having a time of prayer. And as I grew in that grace and knowledge of Jesus I was becoming more and more like Him. As a matter of fact the scripture in Ephesians 2:10 even says we are His workmanship….. The word for workmanship in the Greek is POIEMA – which means something “made” – it is where we get our words in English for poem or poetry. Dr. Gary Linton put it this way: God’s grace makes us His work of Art! We are His masterpiece, handiwork, His work of art. We are custom designed; we are tailor made by the Master. Charles Spurgeon explained it like this: It is like an artist with his pallet and on that pallet are smudges of different colors of paint scattered across it. Looks like a big mess to most who would see it. But, oh the masterpiece that springs off that pallet when in the hands of an experienced artist! We are those poor smudges of paint – it is neither the brush nor the paint, but it is the skill of God’s own hand, through the grace of Jesus Christ that does it all! It is His GRACE that makes us God’s workmanship. Do you remember the joy, the exuberance, the excitement when you decided to ask Jesus to be your personal Savior? The Grace of God afforded you that opportunity and the Grace of God has kept you! All things changed when Grace got you! If you have not heard this song – please listen and be reminded of what the Grace of God has done in your life. Then, take that joy and exuberance and excitement and share it with someone around you that does not know of the Grace of God. Let them know what the GRACE can do in their life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtiUjNT_vAM Blessings! Brenda
