Jesus is referred to as the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6; Ephesians 2:14). He brought peace wherever He went because He had peace inside of Him. In Mark 4:39, He could speak peace to the storm raging outside only because He had peace on the inside. I frequently say, “We cannot give away what we don’t have,” and we cannot bring peace to situations if our minds and emotions are in turmoil. Only those who are spiritually mature can be peacemakers because keeping the peace requires that we do not live according to our feelings. If our goal is to keep ourselves comfortable and happy, or to get our own way all of the time, peace will be impossible. Not long before Jesus appeared before Pilate and was sentenced to be crucified, He said, “Peace I leave with you” (John 14:27). The Amplified Classic translation of this scripture tells us we are to stop allowing ourselves to be “agitated and disturbed.” We do have peace available to us; we simply have to be willing to do whatever is necessary to enjoy it. Jesus gives us peace, but we are responsible for maintaining it. When we receive Jesus as our Savior and begin to live with and for Him, one of the first blessings we usually experience is peace.

Dear Friend, I want to talk to you about fear. Do you know that there are 350 verses in the Bible about fear? Except for Jesus, every person in the Bible faced a fear of some sort. Elijah slew 450 false prophets, but ran away from one old woman who sent him a note that she was looking for him and would kill him. When Elijah read that note, he took off running! King David had fears. That why he wrote in Psalm 56:3, “When I am afraid, I will trust in you.” What does God have to say about fear? “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (ESV) When Jesus told His disciples that He was going to leave and go back to His Father, they became fearful. They didn’t want to lose their Lord and best friend. Jesus said, “Peace is what I leave with you. It’s My OWN peace that I leave with you. I do not give it as the world does. So do not worry and be upset. Do not be afraid.” John 14:27 (GNT) Allow our Lord’s promise of peace to enter your soul right now and overcome all fear as you walk with Him this week. Hallelujah!
