My favorite part about this post from my mother, is the photo of my dad in a Russian uniform. And the number of people who thanked him for his service… My mother didn’t approve of John. I sensed this when she said, “Peggy, I don’t approve of John.” She laid out her case. “He’s too quiet. He’s too serious. He’s not happy. He’s too short. He drives like an old man. He doesn’t like horses.” She ended with a prediction: “He’ll never make you happy.” Then she took John aside. “John, Peggy doesn’t know how to cook. She’s never ironed a shirt, or done the laundry, or cleaned the house. She can ride a horse and pitch manure.” When that didn’t work, she sent me away for the summer to visit her sister. John and I were engaged when I returned. My mother drove five-miles-an-hour to our wedding with a funeral flag on the fender and the headlights on. Her black armband matched her corsage. Just kidding! How could any of us have known that she would one day say to me, “Peggy, John is the best gift you have ever given to your father and me.” She was right about some things. John is kind of short. He’s not crazy about horses. And he drives like an old man. As for the two of us being happy—you’d better believe it!

As a result, you will receive greater peace, greater happiness, and greater love from Him. You will learn to appreciate Him and his atoning sacrifice both in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the Cross of Calvary to a much deeper level than you have ever experienced previously. I testify that Jesus indeed does live today. He sits at the right hand of our heavenly Father in splendor and glory. He loves you, and wants to bless you with all that He has. He opens his heart to you. He forgives your sins. He wants to encourage you and to guide you on the path of life with him. Give your burdens to Jesus and let him give you rest (Matt. 11:28). Talk to him when you’re anxious, receive his empathy, and let him put you at peace (Phil. 4:6). No matter what happens your soul will be safe in his hands (John 10:28). He will never leave you (Heb. 13:5). Jesus is your Good Shepherd and he will be with you, comforting you and protecting you on your journey (Ps. 23). With Jesus on your side your future is bright and full of hope! His plans are to prosper you and not to harm you (Jer. 29:11), to give you abundant life (John 10:10) now and forever (John 3:36). So call to the Lord and he will answer you (Jer. 33:3); listen and you will hear his voice directing you (Is. 30:21); tune into your heart and you will sense his instructions (Psalm 16:7). His Holy Spirit will be your Counselor (John 14:15,26; 16:7). Trust in him and he will direct your path (Prov. 3:4-5) and bless you wonderfully (Eph. 1:3).
